Female lawyers in Uganda have been urged to make use of the Insurance Complaints Bureau whenever they encounter challenges with insurance service providers for easy and faster redress.
The call was made by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) Director Legal, Ms. Francesca Kakooza, during the Female Lawyers Network (FLN) symposium held at Hotel Africana on September 26, 2025.

Established under Section 11 (k) and (i) of the Insurance Act, Cap 191, the Bureau is mandated to receive and resolve insurance-related complaints, including unpaid claims and the misselling of insurance products.“The Authority exists to protect insurance policyholders against misconduct in the industry. Always reach out whenever you feel unsupported by your insurance provider,” Ms. Kakooza emphasised.
She further encouraged female lawyers to buy insurance policies for themselves and their families, noting that “no one is ever certain about what the future holds.”
Beyond their legal practice, she challenged participants to explore leadership opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures that can positively impact lives and livelihoods.

The one-day symposium, held under the theme “Women in Electoral Governance: Threats, Opportunities and Good Practices,” brought together female lawyers from across Uganda to empower them to take up leadership roles while upholding integrity, professionalism, and inclusivity in governance.
Hon. Lady Justice Olive Kazaarwe, a High Court Judge and President of the Uganda Judicial Officers Association reminded participants of the importance of professionalism, accountability, and integrity in leadership.
“How you treat the people around you matters. Your domestic workers, colleagues, and even superiors, are witnesses to your character. Leadership is not only about what you do at your desk but also how you show care and compassion in your daily interactions,” Justice Kazaarwe stressed.
The Female Lawyers Network is dedicated to fostering professional growth, integrity, and inclusivity among women in the legal profession, while promoting their active participation in governance processes.
