IRA OPENS ENTRIES FOR 2025 ANNUAL INSURANCE INNOVATION AWARDS

The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) has opened entry for application for industry players to participate in the 6th edition of the Insurance Innovation Awards. 

The awards, a purpose-driven initiative by IRA seek to recognize and celebrate exceptional excellence and transformative solutions, with a view of developing and professionalizing the insurance industry.

The awards are open to all players licensed by the Authority, including insurers, Health Membership Organisations, Brokers, Bancassurance Agents, individual Agents and loss assessors/adjusters.

To recognize the role of media and insure-tech in the value chain, the awards are also open to the media fraternity and technologists who have a bearing towards insurance.

The awards gala will be held on March 27, 2026, under the theme; “Future Eri Ku Sure Ne Insure”.

In a circular dated February 9, 2026, the IRA Chief Executive Officer, Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega said the theme reflects the industry’s collective commitment to advancing insurance as a cornerstone of financial security, conveying that with insurance, the future is safeguarded.  

The awards are organised in partnership with the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), the Insurance Training College (ITC), the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) and the Uganda Insurance Agents Association (UIAA).

Categories

The categories to be participated in are; the Most Innovative Insurer (Life), Most Innovative Insurer (Non-life), Most Innovative Insurance Broker and the Most Innovative Insurance Bancassurance Agent.

The other categories are the Most Innovative Insurance Loss Assessor or Adjuster, Most Innovative Insurance Agent, Insurer-tech of the Year and Media Personality of the year.

Criteria

To participate in the competition, players must be licensed by the IRA, with the exception of the categories of Media Personality of the year and Insure-techs.

Additionally, the innovations must have been created in the last 36 months and must have created a change in the company, the people it serves and the insurance sector as a whole. The solution must also have piloted and rolled out in Uganda.

During evaluation of the competing solutions, focus will be put at customer centricity, originality of the idea, utilization of technology and the design and distribution models of the innovation. It will also look at the potential to increase scale and adaptability by other insurance players and compliance with Environment, Social and Governance principles.
