The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) is set to hold the 7th Annual Conference starting April 23-25, 2025 at Las Vegas Hotel, Mbarara City.
Themed on“A Whole New World: the deep dive into global trends as we re-imagine the world and business landscape”, the conference will explore transformative global trends and highlight the critical role of insurance in de-risking development and promoting resilience. It is expected to attract over 300 delegates from the insurance industry, financial sector, government and regional partners.
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the conference at Fontis Residences Hotel in Kampala on April 16, 2025, the Manager Corporate Affairs, Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA), Ms. Mariam Nalunkuuma who represented the Chief Executive Officer, Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, hailed the evolving insurance landscape, emphasizing the pivotal role of brokers in connecting the industry to the public.

“Brokers are the bridge between insurance companies and the insuring public. They help demystify the complex language of insurance, enabling people to understand what they are buying and why they need it. They stand in the gap to explain policies, clarify entitlements, and restore public trust when confusion is high and decisions matter most.” Ms. Nalunkuuma noted.
She applauded IBAU’s decision to take the conference to Western Uganda, describing it as a significant, promoting regional inclusion and a move in decentralizing insurance education and access.
“This is exactly what needs to be done. We can’t keep these conversations in Kampala. The people out there deserve to understand and benefit from insurance,” she said.
Ms. Nalunkuuma also highlighted IRA’s ongoing support for innovation through initiatives like the Insurance Innovation Awards and the Regulatory Sandbox, which allows new insurance solutions to be tested with fewer barriers. She said the awards particularly value fast claims processing, inclusivity of low-income earners, and digitized service delivery.
Ms. Anne Njeri Njugi, the ICEA Lion Life Assurance Chief Operating Officer echoed similar sentiment emphasising the need to tackle the persistent issues of mistrust, low awareness, and income irregularities—factors she believes are key barriers to deeper insurance penetration.
“We are working closely with brokers to close this gap. The world is changing with AI and technology, and we must design solutions that are fast, simple, and relevant,” said Njeri.
She added: “We have digitized our processes because people already hold the solution in their hands-their phones. Insurance must move with the times. People don’t want to answer so many questions to buy a policy. The challenge and the opportunity is to make insurance easy, fast, and even fun.”
The IBAU Chairman, Mr. Paul Muhame commended IRA’s strong stewardship of the industry and emphasized the Association’s commitment to countrywide engagements.

“It is time we moved the conversation beyond Kampala. This conference is about taking insurance to the people,” he stated.
He noted that the forthcoming conference will be a landmark event, drawing together insurance experts and stakeholders from Uganda, Rwanda, and the region. It will feature engaging panels on Insurtech innovations, strategic partnerships, modern distribution models, policy frameworks, and regional integration, alongside unparalleled networking opportunities.
“As the industry races into “a whole new world” of digital transformation and customer-centric solutions, this year’s conference is set to become a defining moment in reshaping how insurance is understood, delivered, and embraced in Uganda and beyond,” he said.
