2026 ANNUAL INSURANCE WEEK OPENS WITH VIBRANT FESTIVITIES

The Insurance fraternity set Kampala abuzz on March 23, 2026, as a vibrant band procession and spirited marching engagement marked the official opening of the fifth Annual Insurance Week (AIW) at Constitutional Square.

It was opened by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) Chief Executive Officer, Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, who rallied the public to come in big numbers to learn about how insurance can protect their livelihoods, businesses, and families.

The AIW, brings together all industry players and financial service providers, the event serves as a dynamic platform for engaging the public and deepening their understanding and appreciation of insurance.

This year’s week kicked off on March 19, and will run up to March 26, 2026 under the theme, Future Eri Ku Sure Ne Insure.

Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi said the theme was carefully chosen to remind Ugandans that insurance can be the backbone of a stable and secure future.

He noted that the Authority is committed to advancing financial literacy and empowering Ugandans to make informed decisions about risk protection.

“The industry is intentional in ensuring that insurance becomes understood, accessible, and relevant to the everyday needs of all Ugandans,” he said.

He also urged the members of the public who are aggrieved with their insurance service providers to take advantage of the IRA Complaints Bureau to lodge their complaints.

“Should anyone have concerns, queries, or complaints regarding insurance services, our team is available to listen, guide, and ensure matters are addressed promptly,” he said, adding that the Authority remains agile, responsive, and committed to protecting policyholders and strengthening public confidence in insurance.

During this week, the public has the opportunity to interact directly with insurers, learn about different insurance products, and receive guidance on how insurance can protect their families, businesses, and assets.

The AIW is organized in partnership with the Insurance Training College (ITC), Uganda Insurers’ Association (UIA), Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU), Uganda Engineering Valuers and Loss Assessors Association (UEVLA) and the Uganda Insurance Agents Association.

It is supported by Kenya Airways, Uganda Reinsurance Corporation, Africa Reinsurance Corporation,         Bank of Uganda, Deposit Protection Fund, Smart Applications, Uganda Revenue Authority, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Reinsurance Corporation, ZEP Re, Agro Consortium, Raw Technology, Smart Applications and Faras.

Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi also commended the partners and sponsors for supporting the AIW over the years, noting that their participation has ensured that the public learns about insurance and also benefits from a range of essential services and information that support their everyday lives.

Similar engagements are being held regionally at the Uganda Christian University grounds in Mbale, Pece Stream Green Square in Gulu and Amazon Building space in Mbarara.

Several activities are happening at the different venues, including a medical camp where the public is able to access different services like free eye and body checkups, blood donation and consultations on all insurance matters.

During this week, the members of the public are also able to  register and renew their national identifications,  register for birth and marriage certificates and driving permits.

The Principal ITC, Mr. Saul Seremba applauded IRA for the consistency in organizing the AIW, saying it is a sign of IRA’s determination to create a platform for the industry to engage meaningfully to bridge the knowledge gap.

He added that consistency will play a great role in winning public trust in insurance services.

The UIA Board member, Mr. Elias Edu urged the public to wholly embrace the digital motor third-party insurance for more convenience and great customer experience.

As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, the industry donated hospital beds to Kirunddu National Referral Hospital.
