IRA PARTNERS WITH UBTS TO COLLECT BLOOD

The outbreak of Covid-19 with its subsequent impact like the closure of schools affected Uganda Blood Transfusion Services’ blood collection efforts since students contribute 95% of blood needed for transfusion. The closure of schools therefore caused a physiological shortage of blood in different hospitals. This has since created the need for massive blood donation campaigns in different parts of the country.

As part of the efforts to support this cause, the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) chose to partner with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) in carrying out the blood donation campaigns.

This was done in areas of Mukono, Luganzi and Nkokonjeru on 9th, 10th and 11th of March 2021 respectively under the theme “Donate Blood Save Mothers”.

The campaign was successful as 444 units of blood were collected against the target of 500 units.

The Authority’s CEO Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega appreciated the people in areas where the campaign was carried out for responding to this voluntary call and encouraged many more people in the country to come out and support such efforts aimed at saving the lives of others.
